Cycling route from Kwong Fuk Bridge to Fu Heng

Route | Kwong Fuk Bridge > Tai Po Old Market Playground > Fu Heng

There are quite a few road flyovers and footbridges over the Lam Tsuen River. Do you know their history?
Kwong Fuk Bridge, the end of this episode's route, is actually the third generation.

The old Kwong Fuk Bridge stood at the far end of today's Kwong Fuk Road and was completed in 1896. In 1898, after Britain leased the New Territories, a one-way road bridge was built beside Kwong Fuk Bridge. It was converted to two lanes in 1957. In 1986 the Hong Kong Government demolished the whole bridge and replaced it with Po Heung Bridge. The site was rebuilt as a red-pillar, green-tile footbridge for pedestrians and cyclists, and the stone railings and stone piers of Kwong Fuk Bridge are still kept beside it.

Tai Po Old Market Playground
Have you ever come in for a look? Blocks arranged around a triangle in the middle — what is it?
It's a giant sundial! The sundial on the plaza casts a shadow, according to that day's sunlight, onto the markings around the circular edge, so you can tell the time.
