Mun Tung Estate > GREEN@ISLANDS > Tung Chung Fort > Tung Chung New Development Pier

GREEN@ISLANDS

  • Part of the GREEN@COMMUNITY programme. By recycling reusable materials and running environmental-education activities, it brings greener living to the Islands District.
  • Park at the bike parking near GREEN@ISLANDS and take your time learning how the Islands District is going green.
  • There are regular eco workshops, such as making reusable bags, body scrub and mosquito repellent.
  • There is an open recycling station inside, so you can drop off the rubbish you are carrying and do your bit.

Tung Chung Fort

  • Built in 1832 during the Qing dynasty. Six cannons are still there, and it is one of Hong Kong's declared monuments.
  • The fort was once a naval headquarters defending against the British forces and pirates, and it was also used as a police station and as a campus of Wa Ying College.
  • Recommended if you like shooting on film. Most of the buildings nearby still look as they did then, and film makes them feel even more vintage.
  • How to get there: leave Mun Tung Estate, turn right after the Ha Ling Pei bus stop, and go past the Sheung Ling Pei public toilet.

Smile Cafe

  • If you are tired and want a break, stop at Ma Wan New Village on the way and check in at a cafe.
  • Ma Wan New Village has a few cafes to choose from. Smile Cafe has a cat in charge, and only the lucky ones get to see it.
  • There is bike parking right outside the cafe.

Tung Chung New Development Pier

  • Along the waterfront you can see murals painted by community volunteers, and each one means something different.
  • There is a ferry on the Tuen Mun - Tung Chung - Sha Lo Wan - Tai O route. It is also a filming location for the hit drama Ossan's Love, so you can take the boat into Tai O and follow in the footsteps of Ah Tin and Ah Muk.
  • In the evening you can watch the sunset on the horizon.
